Like any city built on water, it's best seen from a boat. Buildings seen from the water are totally different from dry land. From the water you have a much better view. Canal cruises are the most popular tourist attraction, with over 3 million passengers a year.
There are over 76 kilometers of waterways in the city, spread across 165 canals and spanned by 1.400 bridges (more than Venice).
The seventeenth-century canals are added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in July 2010. The areas around the city's main canals are an international icon of urban planning and architecture. Along the main canals are 1.550 monumental buildings.
