Information

There is no place in the world where so many works by Vincent van Gogh (1853 - 1890) are on show together. The collection includes over 200 paintings, 500 drawings and more than 750 letters. The artist produced around 900 paintings and 1200 drawings.

The building was designed by the Dutch architect Gerrit Rietveld. In 1999, the museum was completely renovated and a new wing added, designed by the Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa.

Detailed information

The Museum also contains works of other 19th-century artists like Gaugin, Monet, Bernard and Monticelli. On Friday nights, the Van Gogh museum is transformed into a relaxed place to meet, complete with lounge chairs, dj's, video projections and a bar.

Till 25 April 2013 (26 - 30 April closed!) the Van Gogh Museum will be the guest of the Hermitage Amsterdam. During this period the museum building on Museumplein will undergo extensive renovation. The temporary move means that visitors will still be able to see a large portion of the museum's collection.
