The Amsterdam Gay Pride is an annual gay festival weekend in the centre of Amsterdam, organized in the first weekend of August. The highlight is the famous Canal Parade on Saterday afternoon. Where most parades use trucks, Amsterdam has boats!
75 spectacular decorated boats with beautiful boys and girls will sail from 14:00 till 18:00 through the Prinsengracht and Amstelriver. With 500,000 spectators, this event is one of the largest public events of the Netherlands. Big gay street parties start at the Reguliersdwarsstraat, Amstel, Westermarkt, Paardenstraat (women) and Amstelveld.
The main parties are at Melkweg, Hotel ArenA, Paradiso and Odeon.
The Canal Parade starts at 2pm at the beginning of the Prinsengracht at the Westerdok harbour. At the end of the Prinsengracht, the parade turns left on to the Amstel river, passing the famous white Skinny Bridge (Magere Brug) and passes the Stadhuis/Muziektheater to make a right in the direction of the Oosterdok.
