Hajenius is a famous cigar store located on the Rokin since 1915, where nothing would seem to have changed.
The building, built in German sandstone, has a splendid Art-Deco interior, fine Italian marble, highly-decorated ornaments, and colossal chandeliers that date from the time when Amsterdam was still lit by gas.
The history of Hajenius begins in 1826, when the 19 years old Pantaleon Gerhard Coenraad Hajenius opens a store that offered customers only the very best cigars. His store was an immediate succes: leading citizens and even royalty made their way to this store .... and still do.
