Information

Madurodam, built in 1952, is a miniature city located in The Hague, offering you the highlights of the Netherlands on a scale 1:25.

It was established for two reasons: as a war monument and as a charity foundation.

  • The city is named after George Maduro, who died in Dachau. For his heroic deeds against German troops, he received posthumously the Military Order of William, the highest Dutch honor. His parents decided to donate a sum of money for the construction of a miniature city as a monument to remember their son instead of erecting a regular monument.
  • Mrs Boon - van der Starp, member of the Society for the support of the Dutch Student Sanatorium, invested in Madurodam to acquire financial support for her Society.
