Information

The currency in the Netherlands is the EURO, which is used in almost all countries within the European Union. Notes are in denominations of EUR 500, 200, 100, 50, 20, 10 and 5. Coins are in denominations of EUR 2, 1 and 50, 20, 10, 5 cents. (2 and 1 cents are not used anymore, because final amounts will be rounded to 5 or 0 cents).

Major creditcards and traveller cheques are widely accepted, but less popular in bars and shops. Chip and pin is more prevalent. So always carry some cash. ATMs (cashmachines) are only found at banks, TNT postoffices and at AH (Albert Heijn) supermarkets. If your cashcard carries the Maestro or Cirrus symbol, you should be able to withdraw cash.
